During the third over of the innings, before de Kock had settled in, he hit Freedom bowler Anrich Nortje for a stunning six over deep mid-wicket. In 2018, he participated in the first-ever Mzansi Super League T20, where he was selected to play for the Cape Town Blitz. The Blitz paid Rs. 350,000 for his services. Unfortunately, he could not finish the competition due to an ankle injury.

Nortje, a first-time bowler, had impressive stats of 7-1-33-1. South Africa easily reached the target with eight wickets remaining with a 136-run stand between Quinton de Kock (81) and Faf du Plessis (112*).

Nortje was included in South Africa's Cricket World Cup squad in April 2019. A hand injury forced him to withdraw from the competition on May 7, 2019, and Chris Morris replaced him.

T20I Career

On September 18, 2019, Anrich Nortje's debut in T20I for South Africa against India was made, bowling 3 overs and allowing 27 runs while not picking up a wicket. He also participated in the final two games of the home series against Australia, bowling four overs and claiming two wickets.

Test Career

After Anrich Nortje's T20 debut, he was called up to the Test squad and made his debut for South Africa on October 10 2019, against India. South Africa lost by an innings and 137 runs after he gave up 100 runs in the first inning without taking a wicket. Anrich Nortje collected his first-ever five-wicket haul in a Test match in January 2020. It came in the fourth Test against England.
