Birmingham Phoenix made one of the biggest signings in The Hundred's inaugural season by signing Ellyse Perry, the Australia all-rounder and ICC Women's Player of the Decade.

Do you know about Ellyse Perry’s records? Perry is one of the most renowned cricketers in the world, having won both the ICC Women's T20 World Cup five times and the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup once, making her the current number three all-rounder in the ICC T20I world rankings.

When asked about joining Birmingham Phoenix for The Hundred, Ellyse Perry commented, "I'm excited by the opportunity." Since Ben Sawyer and I worked closely together in Australia, I feel a strong connection to him, and I couldn't be happier about his appointment as our Head Coach. I've played with and against several of the talented players on our team in my travels. There will be 100 balls bowled per side, so it should be a lot of fun to play in, and I'm excited to bring cricket to a new generation and encourage more people to take up the sport.

Ellyse Perry, at 30 years old, has won the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) three times with the Sydney Sixers, as well as the Belinda Clarke Award for Australia's top women's international cricketer three times and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year.

Ellyse Perry has the distinct honour of having represented Australia at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany, where she scored a goal in a matchup with Sweden.

"From the moment I was appointed by Birmingham Phoenix, one of the main things on my mind was how to sign Ellyse," stated Ben Sawyer, Head Coach of the Birmingham Phoenix Women.

"Ellyse has been a dedicated fighter for the success of the Sydney Sixers for the past six years, and I've had the pleasure of working directly with her. She will be a major asset to the Birmingham Phoenix, and having her as a part of the club is great.

Birmingham Phoenix has become the first team to finalise their women's roster for The Hundred in 2021 with the acquisition of Ellyse Perry. Birmingham Phoenix is led by New Zealander and number one ranked ICC T20I all-rounder Sophie Devine, and she is joined in the team by fellow Australian all-rounder and ICC women's T20 World Cup winner Ashleigh Gardner.

Amy Jones, a seasoned English wicketkeeper and batswoman originally from Birmingham, is joined by Gordon, a bowler, and Elwiss, an all-arounder. The Phoenix are bolstered by many trophy winners, such as Marie Kelly and Issy Wong of the 2019 Vitality County T20 champion Birmingham Bears.

Knowing that they have their 15 players in place early allows them to get a head start on their team preparations for The Hundred. The squad is loaded with leaders, veterans of the highest level, and top-tier potential.

The new Birmingham team, Birmingham Phoenix, opens The Hundred at home at Edgbaston against London Spirit on Friday, July 23. The men's and women's teams will play on the same day, with the women's game beginning at 3 p.m. and the men's at 6.30 p.m.

Priority ticket sales for The Hundred begin on April 7 for individuals registered at thehundred.com, and general ticket sales start on April 21 for the matches of Ellyse Perry. Tickets for children under 16 are at £5, with adult tickets starting at £10 for two games (a women's and men's match), while children under 5 are admitted free of charge. Matches disrupted by COVID-19 will be subject to refund procedures.
