Dale Steyn ICC Ranking And Stats

Dale Steyn is often known as one of the most prominent bowlers in international cricket. The South African bowler can even swing the ball and is regarded as the most feared bowler in the cricket history of South Africa.

Early Career

In 2004, Dale made his Test debut with AB de Villiers, a rookie, after he impressed Ray Jennings with his skills and stamina in the home series against England with a mixed background of merely seven first-class games.

After consistently outstanding first-class performances, Dale remained in the loop and returned in 2006 for the home series against New Zealand.

During his prime years as a fast bowler, in 2008, Dale Steyn collected 86 wickets in 14 games and received an award for ICC Player of the Year award.

Later on, Dale Steyn jumped to make an opening collaboration with Morne Morkel. The two became the most fearsome bowling pair of that time, including quick-swinging thunderbolts.

Moving Forward In His Career

At the end of his 48th Test, Dale Steyn became the fastest Protea to 100 Test wickets and closed with 249 wickets. Steyn's strike rate is outstanding and stays second only to England's George Lohmann, who played in the 19th century.

Fighting The Injuries

Dale went on for almost six years. However, his body started to crack, and it began in the middle of an ICC tournament, as he was left behind with a groin strain. His injuries increased, from a side -strain to a fractured rib and much more.

During all these injuries, Dale Steyn returned stronger and worked to be at the international level. When India toured South Africa in 2013, he went through the longest wicketless period; however, he returned to skittle Indians with a five-for Durban as South Africa settled the series.

Dale fought his injuries throughout many important games until he missed the 2019 World Cup; Styen realised he had to choose one. Therefore, he took the difficult decision to retire from Test cricket.
