Did You Know: Usman Khawaja's Wife Rachel Converted To Islam To Marry Love Of Her Life

Usman Khawaja, Australia's first Muslim test cricketer, married his longtime girlfriend, Rachel McLellan, on April 6 at Maleny Manor on the Gold Coast.

Rachel, 22, wore a stunning custom-made white gown by Australian designer Jason Grech, while her 31-year-old groom, Usman, sported a black suit and white bow tie.

Khawaja is married to Rachel

Usman Khawaja is a happily married man, and he and his wife, Rachel, have been blessed with two daughters, Aisha and Ayla. At the end of Day 2, Khawaja had a press conference, and his eldest daughter, Aisha, was there with him. Khawaja told the reporters in the press room that his daughter did not want to go home with him when he finished batting.

Usman Khawaja’s wife Rachel made the switch to Islam in 2017. They tied the knot in 2017 with an Islamic nikah ceremony. A year prior, in 2017, the pair had become engaged. Khawaja and Rachel officially tied the knot in April of 2018.

According to a comment she gave to dailymail.co.uk, "We got his family (from Sydney), and my family came, and we had an intimate ceremony with their Imam- so technically, we've been married for over two years." It was 2019, she said. Usman Khawaja had previously claimed in an interview that Rachel converted to Islam on her own free will.

What did Rachel Say

"When I initially met Usman, I didn't take him seriously and avoided him by all means, but now I can't get him out of my head."

Rachel McLellan added that Usman and his family never forced her to adopt Islam merely for marriage, but she knew that Usman Khawaja greatly values his faith. Because of that, she decided to convert to Islam.

Usman explained that Islam has always been an important part of his life, that he gives it top priority, and that he had to deal with criticism for falling in love with a non-Muslim.

I told Rachel I hoped she would become a Christian, but ultimately, the choice was hers.

Usman Khawaja, born in Islamabad on December 18, 1986, popped the question to Rachel in 2016.
