The Indian left-arm batter and bowler Saurabh Kumar took an eight-wicket haul in the second innings of the Duleep Trophy quarter-final match against East Zone at the Alur cricket stadium.
After picking up three wickets in the first essay, Kumar also took 11 wickets for the match.
This was Saurabh Kumar's 20th five-wicket haul in First Class (FC) cricket. It was also the seventh time he had taken ten wickets in a match in FC cricket.
At Alur midway via the third day's play, East Zone set an aim of 300 in the fourth innings. However, Kumar harshly dented the chances by taking four wickets on the day to decrease East Zone to 69/6. On the final day, Kumar went on and got all four remaining wickets to finish 8/64 in 18.2 overs.
On day 4, Central Zone dominated East with Saurabh's eight-wicket haul and did not give them any chance to come back to chase down 300 runs.
In March, Saurabh Kumar was part of the Rest of India team in the Irani Cup held at Gwalior, and he picked up four wickets in the match.
Since making his debut in 2014 for Services against Himachal Pradesh, the left-armer had picked up 248 FC wickets before this match.

Saurabh Kumar has played at U-19 and U-22 levels for Uttar Pradesh. In 2014/15, in the Ranji Trophy, he made his first-class debut for the Services senior team. On debut, playing against Himachal Pradesh, Kumar only took one wicket in 31 overs, scoring 45 runs with the bat, but he couldn't win.
After that, Saurabh Kumar came back to Uttar Pradesh's side. He played 44 first-class matches, taking 192 wickets at an economy rate of 2.70, and his best number in first-class cricket is 7/32.
On January 8, 2016, Kumar made his T20 debut against Services at Cuttack. He opened the bowling and bowled a finely 2/23 against his former team and made Uttar Pradesh win with a 57-run. So far, he has picked up 21 wickets in 28 T20 games, and his best number in the shortest format is 5/28.
Saurabh Kumar has yet to play his first IPL match, but he has been in a tournament before. In the 2017 IPL Auction, Rising Pune Supergiant signed him for Rs 10 lakh, and Kumar did a decent job at Pune for the entire season. However, in the 2021 IPL Auction, the Punjab Kings team signed him for Rs 20 lakh.
