Heather Knight's Family-Her Pillars Of Strength

Heather Knight is the captain of the England women's cricket team. She was born on 26 December 1990 in Rochdale and later became one of England's finest cricketers. She led her team to victory in the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup. Heather Knight was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) after the historic win in 2018.

Having a supportive family is an essential component of a sportsperson's life. It is no different with Heather, who started playing cricket at age eight.

Heather Knight’s Family

Heather's father, Mike Knight, mother, Becky Knight, and elder brother, Steve Knight, have been her pillars of strength in her cricketing journey. Her interest in cricket sparked when she started playing cricket with her brother as a child. Knight’s family and loved ones call her by the nickname Trev.

After moving to Plymouth, young Heather joined the Plymstock Cricket Club and eventually played for the men’s first XI. Heather was the only girl to play with the men’s team at Devon League Cricket.

The girl who would later go on to represent her country at the World Cup was a bright student academically. She even got the opportunity to study natural sciences at the University of Cambridge. But she decided not to opt for it as cricket was her priority.

Who Is Heather Knight’s Boyfriend?

Heather Knight got engaged to Tim Bromfield, her long-time boyfriend in 2018. He is an accountant by profession. While there has been no official confirmation on their wedding dates, they keep getting spotted together on multiple occasions.

Heather Knight’s Cricket Career: Important Milestones

Interestingly, Knight never seriously considered cricket a career path until she played for England for four years. As a young girl, she was enrolled in her local cricket club with her brother and enjoyed it fully without worrying about making a career out of it. She began seriously considering it only after professional contracts started coming in.

Heather Knight made her ODI debut in 2010 opposite India. In November of the same year, Heather made her T20 debut opposite Sri Lanka. Her Test debut took place in January 2011.

An important aspect of Heather Knight’s cricketing journey is that she holds one of the first tranches of 18 ECB central contracts for women players. She became England women's cricket team captain in 2016, succeeding Charlotte Edwards.

She holds the record for many firsts. For instance, Heather Knight was the first woman cricketer to score a fifty and take five wickets in an ODI innings. She also is the first English cricketer to score a century each in all three game formats.

2017 Knight was named captain of the women’s cricket team ahead of the Women’s Cricket World Cup. The team lost to India in their opening match. But, in the following match with Pakistan, Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver created history in women’s cricket with their 3rd-wicket partnership (213). The team defeated Pakistan by 107 runs.

In the final match held at Lord’s, England defeated India by 9 runs. Knight was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year for steering her team to a World Cup victory.

While Heather Knight has established her place in the history of women's cricket, her family's support has helped her reach where she is today. In July 2023, Knight led her team to victory against Australia in the Women’s Ashes 2023. Now, let’s wait and watch where she’s headed next!
