India's U-19 World Cup All-Rounder Anukul Roy Believes In Joy Of Life

Anukul Roy, the top wicket-taker for the Indian U-19 World Cup-winning side, did not disappoint his loved ones with a subpar performance in the championship game against Australia. The Roy family is also active as they prepare for Roy's cousin's wedding.

The family of Indian U-19 cricket champion Anukul Roy had double reason to celebrate on Saturday. All eyes have been glued to the TV since morning as Anukul performs at the Uma Narayan Palace, a marriage hall located on the Samastipur-Mohanpur road, 85 kilometres northeast of Patna.

The adolescent did not let them down. The left-arm spinner's success in the U-19 World Cup event, when he took 14 wickets, made for a particularly happy occasion. Anukul's cousin's wedding was lined up for the upcoming weekend.

As soon as the winning runs were scored, the wedding venue erupted in cheers, dancing, and the bursting of crackers. We may take great pride in that. One village resident hoped the young man would soon be playing for India's top squad.

Anukul Roy is originally from Bhirha, a small village in the Rosera block of the Samastipur district in Bihar, but he had to move to Jharkhand in order to pursue his dream of being a professional cricket player. He completed eighth grade at Samastipur and then moved on to Jamshedpur.

His father, an attorney named Sudhakar Roy, was overjoyed and kept busy fielding calls of congratulations. Anukul's parents received phone congratulations from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who echoed the public's praise for the young man. “We couldn't be more pleased with his performance so far,” said Anukul’s father.

The promising young cricketer credited his success to his loved ones, particularly his advocate and ex-left-handed batsman father, Sudhakar. “My loved ones have put in a lot of work. They shipped me off to Jamshedpur at a young age, which was crucial because it accelerated my development as a player. All the medals and cash prizes I've won are theirs,” said Roy.

After winning the U-19 World Cup, he presented his father with the trophies and told him to do anything he wanted with them. Anukul Roy is ready to move on after his success at the U-19 level. “To improve my performance at the first-class level, I need to put in more time practising and strengthening my mind. It's up to me to do some introspection and work on the parts of myself that give me pause," Roy said.

Everyone in attendance at the wedding decided to take advantage of the large open space by playing a game of cricket. Family members gathered around a big screen and a projector to see 'the Son of Dirt' play in the match broadcast live from New Zealand.

After getting the wicket of Australian batsman Param Uppal in the 25th over, the left-arm spinner brought the crowd to its feet again in the 45th over when he got the wicket of Australian top scorer J Melro. Anukul Roy’s IPL debut with Mumbai Indians.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association is quite pleased with his outstanding play. We're ecstatic for Anukul Roy and his success. He has brought honour to Jharkhand. One of our trainers has been working with him since he was a small boy when he first recognised his amazing talent. Ajay Shahdeo, the JSCA's vice president, stated, "Once he returns, we will organise a grand felicitation program in his honour."
