Fast bowler Starc received recognition for his outstanding play in all three game formats; in the course of a calendar year, he claimed 43 wickets. He surpassed Mitchell Marsh by one vote to become the sixth bowler to win the accolade in 22 years. Voting was used to pick the prizes for the years 2021–2022.
