‘Nice Garry’: Aussie Cricket Star Nathan Lyon Marries Emma Mccarthy

On July 24, Australian Nathan Lyon and his longtime partner Emma McCarthy got married. After dating for more than five years, Lyon and McCarthy reportedly got engaged in 2021. Finally, on Sunday in Australia, they were wed in a discreet ceremony.

In December 2017, Lyon and Melissa Waring finalised their divorce. Shortly after, the Australia spinner and Emma, a real estate agent, started dating. On Instagram, Nathan Lyon posted a picture from the ceremony along with the hashtag "Mr & Mrs." In the picture, Emma is wearing a white gown, while Lyon is wearing a black tuxedo.

Nathan Lyon teammates and Australian players such as Matt Renshaw, Peter Siddle, Brett Lee, Alex Carey, and Mitchell Swepson welcomed the two in their statements.

Sportscaster Mark Beretta of Sunrise toasted the winners with champagne and clapping emojis. Early in 2021, while watching Nathan Lyon match play in the Brisbane Test match against India, McCarthy is rumoured to have been spotted sporting a diamond ring. To become first-time homeowners in 2020, the couple invested $3.8 million for a townhouse in Tennyson Point, Sydney.

Nathan Lyon - An Overview

Nathan Lyon, who was born on November 20, 1987, began his career at the Adelaide Oval as a ground worker after finishing a four-year apprenticeship there.

South Australia's Big Bash coach, Darren Berry, observed his off-breaks and signed him to play for the Redbacks T20 squad in 2010-2011. Nathan Lyon went on to represent South Australia in the regional one-day league and the Sheffield Shield after his triumph in the T20s. As a consequence of his quick rise, he was selected for the 'A' trip to Zimbabwe in 2011, where he finished with 11 wickets to win the Series award.

His hard work in 'A' levels and at home was not in vain. Australia needed a spinner after Shane Warne retired, and Lyon found himself travelling with the national side for the three-test series against Sri Lanka.

Lyon, a classic off-spinner who likes flighting the ball, had early success, becoming the 131st player to do so with a 5-wicket haul on his debut at Galle. Lyon's performance on the Australian portion of the trip was underwhelming, but he had already established himself as a long-term prospect.

Nathan Lyon's debut match was in Australia at the Gabba in the first Test of the series against New Zealand. Lyon's match numbers of 7/88, including 4/69 in the first innings and 3/19 in the second, are the best by an Australian off-spinner at the venue.

Lyon was named the solitary spinner for the 2013 Ashes, which took place in England in April 2013. It was correct until a few hours before the first Test, when Ashton Agar replaced him in the starting lineup. He was reintroduced into the team for the Third Ashes Test; however, in the Fourth Test at Chester-le-Street, he recorded figures of 4/42 on the first day and reduced England to a total of 158.

Messy Split

This relationship was brought on by Lyon's contentious divorce from Mel Waring, his ex-wife with whom he had two children.

On her blog Life Of Lyons in 2018, Waring discussed how the divorce had made her unhappy. "This wasn't supposed to happen this way; I didn't ask for it." The mother of two said, "He was my forever, my whole universe.”

Nathan Lyon thanked his then-girlfriend McCarthy in 2019 for helping him recover from a devastating botched run-out effort during the 2019 Ashes series. He claimed that he was fortunate to have Emma with him to help keep his mind off things, as well as some family members.
