Announcing his retirement from "all formats of cricket," former India and Uttar Pradesh batsman Suresh Raina effectively ended his time in the Indian Premier League and domestic play in India. On August 15, 2020, at the age of 35, Raina announced his retirement from international cricket, following in the footsteps of MS Dhoni.

“It's been a great privilege to serve my country and my state, UP,” Raina wrote on Twitter on Tuesday, "I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of cricket."

Since 2018, Suresh Raina has not participated in any first-class or list-A cricket, and his final IPL game took place in October of 2021. For 11 years, from 2008 to 2021, Raina was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings' lineup. He led CSK to four championships between 2010 and 2021, scoring 4687 runs in 176 games. Before the 2022 player auction, Chennai Super Kings waived him, and none of the ten teams purchased him.

Raina retired after accumulating 8654 runs in 336 T20 matches and 6871 in 109 first-class games. He debuted internationally in 2005 but began his senior domestic career for UP in 2002–03.
