U-19 Cricket Captain Anuj Rawat’s Inspirational Journey

Anuj is a left-handed batsman and a wicketkeeper who served as captain of the Under-19 cricket team of India. Anuj Rawat age 23 hails from a small village near Nainital in Uttarakhand. He came to Delhi to receive cricket coaching from the Delhi Cricket Academy. Anuj Rawat had great support from his family from the very start for his father was the one who wanted to see Anuj become a professional cricketer in his life. Life before becoming a professional cricketer:

Born on 17 October 1999, Anuj Rawat age 23, comes from a small village named Roopur situated near Ramnagar in Nainital. He belongs to a middle-class family who does farming activities in order to earn a living. From childhood, Anuj had the skills of becoming a proficient cricketer. Anuj’s father always wanted him to become a professional cricketer as he himself also loved playing cricket in his younger days. To make him an international cricket player, what he needed was rigorous cricket training. ‘

However, near their village, there weren’t any facilities for receiving any cricket professional training, thus Anuj’s cricket coach Satish Pokhriyal suggested they should visit Delhi to get Anuj Rawat trained. Affording such huge expenses was difficult for Rawat’s family but despite having financial issues, Anuj’s father thought for the bright future of his son and followed the coach’s advice. 

When Anuj was only 11, his father sent him to Delhi where he enrolled in Raj Kumar Sharma’s cricket academy in Paschim Vihar, West Delhi. This was the beginning of Anuj Rawat's match journey that made him become a professional cricketer!

Anuj Rawat’s Cricket Journey so far

After getting trained at the Delhi Cricket Academy, Anuj Rawat joined the domestic cricket squad of Delhi. Anuj Rawat's debut match was during the 2017-2018 Ranji Trophy when he played for the domestic team of Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla against Assam. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored two half-centuries making an average of 58.33.

According to Anuj Rawat news, he expressed that playing Ranji Trophy has always been his dream and how grateful he feels playing alongside seasoned cricketers like Gautam Gambhir and Ishant Sharma who also helped him learn so much during the period.

In 2018, Anuj Rawat played his first Under-19 Asia Cup. Rawat was appointed as the U-19 team captain for the four-day India tour of Sri Lanka. Anuj Rawat led the team with great intellect and skills.

Given the remarkable talent of  Anuj Rawat, he was put on the list of players being auctioned for the upcoming IPL in the year 2020. That’s when Rajasthan Royals bought Anuj Rawat for Rs. 80 lakh during the auction and Anuj Rawat debut match in the IPL came through. He was further bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2022 IPL where he scored a good 66 runs in 47 balls against Mumbai Indians. He was retained by RCB for IPL 2023 and so far, he has been displaying outstanding performances for the team for the past two years.
