Ranchi native Rahul Tripathi, 31, went from being a mathematics nerd to blowing apart bowling attacks in the IPL, earning him his first call-up to the Indian national team for the upcoming two Twenty20 Internationals against Ireland later this month.
As a member of the IPL 2022 champion Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tripathi's disastrous performance for the Sunrisers Hyderabad made his omission from the current South Africa T20I series all the more unexpected. Now that Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer have left for the Edgbaston Test, Rahul Tripathi has been given his first call-up to the national squad.
Despite his reputation as a technically proficient hitter in Rahul Tripathi's debut match, Tripathi found it difficult to maintain his spot on the team and managed just 185 runs in 11 Ranji Trophy innings in 2016–17.

His father, Army Colonel Ajay Kumar Tripathi, played junior cricket for Uttar Pradesh and his university, and Rahul Tripathi was born in Ranchi in 1991. His father was stationed in Jammu and Kashmir, so that's where he spent much of his childhood.
Ajay Kumar's military career took him to Pune, so he enrolled his son in cricket lessons. After making his first-class debut for Maharashtra in 2012, Rahul quickly became a regular for Deccan Gymkhana, one of Pune's oldest clubs.
