Taniya Bhatia, born on 28th November 1997 in Chandigarh, India, has emerged as a prominent figure in the world of women's cricket. Primarily known for her wicket-keeping skills, she has represented India on various international platforms, making significant contributions to the team's success.

Early Life and Entry into Cricket

 Taniya Bhatia, born to Chandigarh's Sapna and Sanjay Bhatia, grew up with cricket in her blood. 

 Her father, an employee at the Central Bank of India, had played cricket at the all India university level. Moreover, her uncle was also a cricketer, and her younger brother, Sehaj, has joined the U-19 cricket team. Taniya's early exposure to the sport was further enriched by her training under the former Indian cricketer, Yograj Singh, while she pursued her education at DAV Senior Secondary School. Currently, she is pursuing her BA-II at MCM DAV College for Women.

Rise in the Domestic Circuit

Taniya's cricketing journey began at a tender age. After her training days at the DAV academy, she became the youngest girl to represent Punjab in the U19 category at just 11 years old. Her talent didn't stop there. By the age of 16, she had already joined the senior state team.In 2011, at the age of 13, she created history by being the youngest player in the history of the inter-state domestic competition when she competed for the senior Punjab squad. She led by example at the 2015 inter-zonal cricket competition in Guwahati, where she captained the U-19 North Zone team. 

 During this tournament, she scored an impressive 227 runs and was responsible for 10 dismissals. Her consistent performance earned her a spot in the India A squad when she was just 16. However, like many athletes, Taniya faced a professional slump for two years, which almost made her give up on cricket. But with the unwavering support of her mother, she regained her passion and continued to chase her dreams.

International Debut and Journey

Taniya's international debut was in the Women's Twenty20 International cricket (WT20I) for India against South Africa on 13th February 2018. She holds the distinction of being the first woman cricketer from Chandigarh to be a part of the national team. Her jersey number, 28, has since become synonymous with her identity on the field. Her first Women's One-Day International (WODI) match was on September 11th, 2018, and it was against Sri Lanka. Her talent and hard work quickly got her selected to play for India in the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 in the West Indies. She was picked to play in the T20 World Cup in Australia in January of 2020. She played her first Test match against England in June 2021. Her adventure continued as she was selected to represent India in the 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup, which would be held in New Zealand. She competed in the 2022 Commonwealth Games cricket competition for India in Birmingham, England, in July of that year.
